Bible Texts (Old and New Testaments) with Individual Search Engines

Authorized Translation

Contents Simple Search Detailed Search Bible Reading Calendar Bible Download
The Authorized and King James Translations are the same. This translation has been extensively revised since its creation in 1611 to keep the English text readable as the English language changed. This source is from the 1769 edition. The public domain ASCII source of the Authorized Translation came from the Bible Foundation. The public domain ASCII source of the King James comes from Project Gutenberg. I have found the Authorized source is somewhat closer to my KJV than that of Project Gutenberg mostly in terms of punctuation, but both are quite faithful electronic reproductions. The Authorized Translation has been marked up as a red letter version with Jesus' words rendered in red throughout the New Testament.

Darby Translation / Notes

Contents Simple Search Detailed Search Bible Reading Calendar Bible Download
This is a literal translation of the Bible published by John Nelson Darby in 1884 (New Testament) and 1890 (Old Testament). It includes integrated notes with links from the scripture text to the notes and between notes and scripture wherever needed. His original work translated the Hebrew and Greek manuscripts to French and German. This was later translated to English. Please see the introductory notes to the text for more information.

Douay-Rheims (Challoner) Translation

Contents Simple Search Detailed Search Bible Reading Calendar Bible Download
This Douay-Rheims Challoner edition started out as a Project Gutenberg edition. We edited it to match the KJV verse numbering in many spots to allow references to particular verses to bring up the expected verse. Some verse splits are still based on the Vulgate rather than the AV/KJV so we aren't 100% there yet in this conversion process. In addition, we made many corrections to the text by comparing it with other net copies and trying to fix obvious problems or to select the best wording where there were similar choices offered.

King James Translation

Contents Simple Search Detailed Search Bible Reading Calendar Bible Download
This is a rendering of the public domain Project Gutenberg King James Bible. The public domain HTML source used as our source utilized tables for the verses. This has been changed to match our standard format. This collection of web pages also includes the Preface to the King James Version from the translators and some footnotes describing the original sources.

Webster Translation

Contents Simple Search Detailed Search Bible Reading Calendar Bible Download
This is a revision of the Authorized (King James) Version of the Bible created by Noah Webster in 1833. It includes substitutions of words and phrases which were obsolete in his time, or which were deemed to be undignified then. It also corrects errors in grammar and translation errors in the original. Please see the introductory notes to the text for more information.

Young Translation

Contents Simple Search Detailed Search Bible Reading Calendar Bible Download
This literal translation of the Holy Bible was done by Robert Young. This is the third edition, of January, 1898. Rather than attempting to render the ancient writings as they would be written in his day, Young attempted to translate the Hebrew and Greek literally as it was written in the ancient author's day. Thus, it is a more strict literal rendering than that found elsewhere.

Portuguese Joćo Ferreira Translation

Contents Simple Search Detailed Search Bible Reading Calendar Bible Download
This is a Portuguese Translation done by Joćo Ferreira de Almeida. We made some very minor changes to the version distributed by the Unbound Bible. There were a couple of incomplete verses, and some very minor changes in verse numberings to match the Authorized Version for our Parallel Bible displays.

This is a Russian Translation downloaded from Unbound Bible in Russian KOI8-R. In places where both Russian and Greek must be displayed, we are converting the KOI8-R and ISO-8859-7 character sets to UTF-8. In book displays, we leave the text as KOI8-R to aid in searching. If your keyboard transmits KOI8-R, you may be able to enter search phrases directly. Otherwise, use the supplied transliteration table.

Latin Vulgate Translation

Contents Simple Search Detailed Search Bible Reading Calendar Bible Download
This is the public domain Latin Vulgate manuscript as translated by Jerome (347-420 A.D.). It was begun in 382 and was completed in 405 A.D. We have modified the verse numbering of several chapters so scripture links from references would go to expected locations. The majority of Psalms was renumbered in both the Hebrew and Greek sources to accommodate both the scripture links and the parallel version display. The sentence structure of Latin may make some links to portions of multi verse sentences still point to the wrong location, but it is better than it was. Increase the context around the link as needed to accommodate this problem.

Link to this Bible's Table of Contents. Table of Contents: Each Bible description displays this symbol as a link to a table of contents which allows any book from the Bible to be retrieved and displayed. Also included are links to the translator's notes and reference materials where available. If you just want to look at the Bible text itself, try out FastAccess first. It takes a couple of seconds to grab the chapter or verse selection from the Bibles you specify, but the initial document preparation time is much less than the time to download full Bible books. Some Old Testament books can take quite a while to download. The time and bandwidth you save will be appreciated by all.

Link to this Bible's Concordance Search Engine form. Search: Each Bible description displays this symbol as a link to a simple search form which permits word and phrase lookups in the selected Bible.

Link to a more detailed Bible Concordance Search Engine form. Detailed Search: Each Bible description displays this symbol as a link to a more detailed search form which permits additional options such as case sensitivity, partial matches (handling plurals for example), misspellings, restricting searches to specific Bible books, and changing the maximum number of books returned and verses per book returned.

Link to this Bible's Monthly Reading Guide. Reading Guide: Each Bible description displays this symbol as a link to a calendar based monthly Bible reading guide. It will take you to the current month's calendar and provide links to move forward or backward in time as needed. Clicking on each day's date brings up the desired scripture reading for the day.

Link to this Bible's Download Page. Download: If you want a copy of a site Bible, this is the way to do it. We have used a hopefully PC compatible zip program to collect the full text of the site Bible in one file. Unix user's can make use of the gzip'd tar archive which is slightly smaller. This won't give you search capability, monthly Bible reading, or the parallel view ability you have on our web site, but will give you a local copy for research, reference, or help in preparing sermons or teaching. It's much faster than grabbing one book at a time.
