THE HOLY BIBLE (Vulgate Translation) FTP/HTTP Bible Download

All FTP transfers are logged. If you are not comfortable with that, please do not download Bibles or references from our site.

Verse renumbering has occurred in 30 books to conform to the Authorized Version so all reference scripture links will point to equivalent scriptures in all versions. The Psalms have been almost completely renumbered from the original sources since Psalms 9 and 10 were joined together, leading all further Psalms to be off by one until Psalms 147 which starts with verse 12. We have attempted to split verses properly where needed, but since we aren't Latin scholars we may have erred in some cases. Verse joining was much easier and is probably correct.

This Bible is marked up with HTML 4.0 constructs. It is divided into a separate file for each book. Within each book, each verse is contained in a single line. Each verse is tagged with a unique tag to allow any verse to be located in a particular book and displayed by a browser quickly or extracted from the file by a script file. This format also makes it easy to write scripts which extract one or more verses from a book's chapter. Note that this additional tagging information does add to the storage size required for each Bible.

We use Webglimpse as our search tool. This is available on the net, but is not provided as part of any of these compressed files. You won't have search capability from us if you download these files, however, since they are text based you can use any local search capabilities you have available to you on the files. Note that we compiled up changes to the original Webglimpse source to support international characters and extremely long lines.

The zip'd files have been compressed by a utility which presumably produces PC compatible files. The gzip'd files require Unix gzip and tar to properly extract. If you just want to see the format of our source, please use the view source function of your browser on a topic reference or small Bible book like Jude instead of downloading the archives.
