FTP an HTML Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary

General Information

All FTP transfers are logged. If you are not comfortable with that, please do not download Bibles or references from our site.

All reference materials are marked up with HTML 4.0 constructs. Generally, each comment paragraph occupies one line and covers several verses of scripture. If you download the web image file below, you will have to provide equivalent scripts for scripture links. If you don't want to do scripting, download the localized copy instead. Certain fast access features aren't duplicated in the localized version.

A local copy can be wonderful. If you are going to open up every file we have and save a local copy anyway, this is a much faster way to do it. There are many versions of these files available on CD-ROM - I personally find that the Bible Explorer Version 2.0 works well. These have the advantage of not taking up disk space, and being a fairly reliable medium which doesn't need backed up periodically. However, many of these have apparently obtained their source files from the same source as us, and there are errors in them that we are trying to correct on our site.

We use Webglimpse as our search tool. This is available on the net, but is not provided as part of any of these compressed files. You won't have local search capability from us if you download these files, however, since they are text based you can use any local search capabilities you have available to you on the files. The localized files include references back to our site for the search engine and other non-localizable features. Note that we compiled up changes to the original Webglimpse source to support international characters and extremely long lines.

For copyright information about our HTML additions, please see our Copyright statement.

The zip'd files have been compressed by a utility which presumably produces PC compatible files. The gzip'd files require Unix gzip and tar to properly extract. If you just want to see the format of our source, please use the view source function of your browser on a topic reference or small Bible book like Jude instead of downloading the archives.

Reference Sources (4.7 MBytes)

The sources in this table are for home users and resolve as many links as possible locally. All scripture links are localized to a ../lbible format allowing you to download one of the site Bibles into this generic directory to use for scripture links. All have identical contents. Pick the compression and archiving method you have tools to work with.
