| Are the Wraith Coming? William H. Haller |
|---|
I've always been a fan of science fiction. I don't have time anymore to watch every science fiction show that is on TV. But there was a time, back in the days when I was watching 40+ hours per week, that not a science fiction show was broadcast that I didn't make time to watch.
There was one thing that I noticed, starting back in the old classic Star Trek episodes, continuing on through TNG and others. The opposing force (whether bad guys, immature adults, or vastly superior beings) were frequently able to snatch away the good guys for nefarious purposes. The Squire of Gothos..., the Metrons..., "Q", and others were early examples from the Star Trek genre.
I just started watching Stargate Atlantis, having missed the vast majority of the original Stargate series. In that series, the Wraith sweep by in their space craft and beam up or otherwise make people disappear to use as food. Not a very pleasant prospect, that... So why is this such a popular plot complication?
It isn't a new plot complication of course. The Bible says that all Christians who are alive and remain at the time of Christ's coming in the air will be caught up to meet Him in the air. We will all just be gone. Poof. Just like the science fiction writers portray, although to a much better end. If you go back in the Old Testament, Elijah was caught up in a chariot of fire and a whirlwind to heaven. Enoch was not for God took him. Both of these men are waiting in Heaven to be the two witnesses in Jerusalem during the Tribulation as death is appointed to every man and their time is still to come.
So there is nothing original with the science fiction idea of people being mysteriously taken away. Could Satan be using this latest push of promulgating fictional extra terrestrial beings that come and cause large numbers of people to disappear as a means of conditioning those left to hear a similar lie when the rapture comes and be convinced that the rapture as described in the Bible didn't in fact happen? He has being subtly lying and deceiving man since Adam and Eve's day, so it is entirely possible.
This isn't a rant against convenient plot complications in science fiction shows. It is just a warning in case the rapture should happen any time soon that people not be deceived into believing some fictional entity had anything to do with it. Don't be led by the powers that be in the remaining governments of the Earth into accepting a mark of the beast to enable them to somehow track the "real" humans and "protect" them from the next disappearance. There will just be the one and then the tribulation.
