Offline Browsing

Please do NOT run offline web snapshot programs on our website. Examples include, but are not limited to MemoWeb, WebStripper, and MSIECrawler. With all of the CGI scripts with various Bible options, you'll be here for a very long time and probably still won't get what you want - your hard disk will fill up or you will give up first. If you ignore our request to not use the programs at all, please configure them to ignore all of the following links:

• /cgi-bin/bd/ links - these provide a bible without DIV HTML code around each chapter.
• All links matching the pattern /cgi-bin/[ctw]g*, /perl/concf*, /cgi-bin/webglimpse* which access our search engines. Without queries they are useless and the web copier programs waste a tremendous amount of time until they figure this out.
• All links matching the pattern /cgi-bin/fdmp* which allow you to dump portions of a specific bible and are useless without user input.
• /cgi-bin/cdmp links - these provide parallel bible displays and are useless without user input.
• /cgi-bin/cplan links - these provide links to daily bible reading in a user selected bible - they are perpetual calendars and thus provide an infinite number of scripture links for the web copiers to try to download.

Instead please use our anonymous FTP facility to retrieve the Bibles or references you want. It will be much faster for you due to the compression of the archives, and will take much less of our bandwidth. Archives are available in zip'd, gzip/tar'd and bzip2/tar'd formats with MD5 checksums for integrity checking. Use the web interface or passive FTP agents to download the material.

If there is a network problem at your end, at our end, or somewhere in the middle, PLEASE DON'T KEEP TRYING TO DOWNLOAD every few minutes. Wait a few hours and try again. This is especially true if our home page indicates there are known network problems. One anonymous individual tried to download our commentaries and Bibles 212 times in 6 days. They were shipped out of our network, but got hung up at our ISP, and accounted for >1 GB of data transfer that could have been used elsewhere. Use some common sense - we aren't a for-profit service.
